We investigate the electrical transport properties of ordered arrays of parallel thin tubes made out of semiconducting oxides, and explore the influence of tube thickness, doping, and surface chemistry on the conduction of the tubes. Thicknesses and doping levels are accurately controlled by atomic layer deposition. We envision that chemical functionalization of the inner tube surfaces by appropriate molecular receptors will enable us to carry out selective sensing of gaseous analytes.
