Emphasis in recent years has been on epitaxial ferroelectric perovskite thin films, like Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 or BaTiO3 films, on epitaxial films of the bismuth-layered perovskites, like rare-earth substituted Bi4Ti3O12 or SrBi2Ta2O9 films, as well as on epitaxial conducting perovskite oxide films like SrRuO3 to be used as electrode layers. The films are grown by well-controlled pulsed laser deposition on single-crystal substrates such as Si(100), YSZ(100), and SrTiO3 of various orientations. Microstructure-property relations are investigated to understand intrinsic and extrinsic contributions to the ferroelectric, dielectric, and electronic properties.
